Passionflower
Extract
Herbal extract from Passiflora incarnata traditionally used for anxiety and sleep support with moderate evidence for calming effects.
Passionflower extract is derived from the Passiflora incarnata plant and has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy for anxiety, insomnia, and mild stress. Its calming effects are believed to be mediated by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain.
Moderate-quality clinical trials show benefits for mild anxiety and sleep, but research is limited and heterogeneous.
Reduces symptoms of mild anxiety and nervousness
ModeratePassionflower extract has demonstrated anxiolytic effects in several randomized controlled trials, with efficacy comparable to some prescription anxiolytics for generalized anxiety disorder, and fewer impairment side effects.
Improves sleep quality and onset
ModeratePassionflower extract and tea may increase total sleep time and improve sleep quality, particularly in people with mild insomnia or difficulty maintaining sleep.
May support symptom reduction in ADHD (as adjunct)
LimitedStudies suggest passionflower may help reduce hyperactivity and improve attention in children with ADHD when used alongside standard treatment, though more research is needed.
